Yes oil has dropped from $150 a barrel to $40 and may go lower but the reasons to use alternative energy are more urgent than ever. Global warming is still with us and as a result there are some very dark clouds on the horizon. As builder of the Fueless Yachts I believe that solar power is the only way to go, yes, even in Canada and yes solar power for ALL our energy needs.
Using solar power for a boat involves some compromises but if you are a fan of alternative energy you will not find these too arduous, in fact the benefits outweigh the disadvantages particularily when what global warming could do for the planet is considered. No water skiing, no crossing the Gulf of Georgia in one hour, no AC, no microwave, big screen TV or 200 watt stereo. What you will have is quiet 6kt cruising, no fuel bills, no carbon contribution while operating, no winter moorage bills if you use a trailer, no boat license, a reasonable stereo system and the knowledge that you are not a part of humanities greatest problem.
As you can see from the pictures on this site, Fueless One, is under construction. I won't really know how she performs until the sea trials are completed so don't order your Fueless Yacht just yet. All that performance information will be posted on this site when I have it as well as the boat specifications. Also I won't know the price of the boat until I have added up all the bills.
In the meantime we hope you are living a 'green' life and interested in yachting on board one of the most environmentally sensitive yachts available. Not including kayaks and canoes which are not considered yachts as their beer capacity is far too small.
